- 1. Built example
A solar system has been built to increase the energy efficiency of the process.
- 2. Industry Sector
Textile - Children’s clothes processing; 40 employed workers
- 3. Industrial application
Heating washing water
- 4. Process description
- Process flowsheet:
No information is available.
- Processes:
The hot water from the closed-loop hydraulic circuit of the solar collectors heats (via an internal heat exchanger) the water in an open 1500 liters solar storage tank. The hot water leaving the solar storage tank is either a) fed directly to the 22 kg washing machine of the plant or b) used to preheat the water in a 500 liters storage tank (also preheated by steam condensate returns). Any auxiliary heating required is provided for via a heat exchanger in the storage tank.
Backup heating:
- a) Washing machine – internal electric resistance
- b) Steam boiler (100 kW) – Diesel fuel
- 5. Energy flows and temperature ranges
- Main heat supply system and fuel:
No information is available.
- Energy consumption (Sankey):
No information is available.
- Temperature ranges and other parameters:
Process hot water requirements of Allegro S.A
Factory operation hours : 0700 –1500 daily, closed on weekends
Hot water consumption :
- a) Washing machine: 0.7 m3/day
- b) Steam presses: 1.4 m3/day
Temperature of process water:
- a) Washing machine: 20 – 90 0C
- b) Steam presses: steam >100 0C
- 6. Solar Thermal Plant
- Used scheme:
No information is available.
- Description of the main features and components:
Supplier : Sole S.A
Year of installation : 1993
Area of Collectors : 25 x 2,2 m2 = 55 m2 (Flat-plate collectors)
Tilt : 400 due South
Hydraulic circuit : Closed-loop water/ethylene glycol
Connection : 5 parallel branches with 5 collectors in each branch
Volume of solar storage tank : 1500 litres
- Pictures of the built solar system:
No pictures available.
Maintenance requirements:
The system is operational with corrosion problems to two collectors. A closed storage tank due to corrosion problems has replaced the open storage tank
- 7. Energy savings
- Pinch analysis results:
No information is available.
- Energy savings:
Significant energy savings for washing machine. Satisfactory energy savings for steam boiler.
- 8. Economic evaluation
- Economic parameters of the built solar system:
Financing technique: 50 % public subsidy, no TPF/GSR contract
